Dr. Cary Hills, Owner

My Promise to Our Customers

I believe that when trust, honesty, and fairness are given, these gifts are returned. Our practice is oriented towards wellness and I enjoy a professional yet personalized relationship with my clients and patients.

I believe that being an advocate for the animal, while respecting my clients’ goals and needs, results in a unique and enjoyable client/patient relationship. I know that clients help me in my pursuit to provide excellent patient care, and I welcome your suggestions on how I can better serve your needs.

My goal is to serve clients with integrity and understanding, and to serve patients with competence and compassion while providing state-of-the-art veterinary care, measured against high current standards. Quality equine care requires a knowledgeable, experienced, and responsive veterinarian.

His first few years of practice were spent in mixed and racetrack practice in and around Vancouver, BC.  From 1998 -2005, he worked in Southern Oregon at a busy multi-veterinarian equine practice. Dr. Hills bought Sound Equine Veterinary Hospital in late 2005.

Dr. Hills enjoys his work and loves horses. He considers it a privilege to have their care and welfare entrusted to him. His particular areas of interest are preventative medicine, performance and lameness work ups, diagnostic imaging, surgery, reproduction, and ophthalmology. He also enjoys working as head/support veterinarian on endurance riding competitions.

Dr. Hills lives in Suquamish with his wife Jennifer and their daughters Clara and Esther. He enjoys fishing, hiking, woodworking, and exploring the Northwest with his family.

Dr. Claire Smith - Associate Veterinarian

After seriously considering making a career of riding, Dr. Smith started pre-veterinary course work in California and then enrolled in veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin. In addition to the regular curriculum, she completed nine externships at some of the top equine hospitals and practices in the country.

Following graduation Dr. Smith accepted a surgical and medical internship at Oregon’s Willamette Valley Equine Hospital where she gained additional experience in anesthesia, pain control, surgery, hospitalization of critically ill patients, neurologic cases, emergency and trauma medicine, neonatal foal care, imaging, and other areas of modern equine veterinary practice.  She has been with Sound Equine since 2010.

Her husband, Brad Green, is an internal medicine doctor for small animals. He has offices in Poulsbo and Olympia, Washington. Between them they have two cats, one dog, and two horses.  They welcomed a daughter in December of 2015.

Dr. Beau Green - Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Beau Green holds a B.S. in cellular, molecular and developmental biology from the University of Washington and graduated from WSU College of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, Beau completed a year-long medicine and surgery internship at Bend Equine Medical Center. His veterinary interests include emergency care, dentistry, ophthalmology, and endocrine/metabolic disease.

Beau is the proud, loving owner of two kitties and a 19 year old Thoroughbred mare.

In his free time Beau is an avid mountain biker, climber, and sailor.

Carolyn Hope Rosenblum – Office Manager

Carolyn Hope joined us after graduating from the University of Wisconsin. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science Business. Her first ever job was at an Equine Clinic in Wisconsin, which is where she is originally from. She has had a passion for horses, particularly American Saddlebreds, all her life and knew she would eventually end up back at an equine clinic, her original love.

Carolyn Hope is also bringing to us our office dog, “Dutch”. “Dutch” is a friendly, 3 year old Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier who loves to lick faces and eat chicken. Feel free to stop by and play as he loves every human and furry being!

In her down time, Carolyn Hope enjoys watching football (Go Pack Go!), paddle boarding with “Dutch”, and riding any horse she can get her hands on!

Mariah Fair-Receptionist and Special Projects

Mariah has worked and ridden at several of the local barns ranging in disciplines from hunter jumper, gaming, western pleasure, and western dressage.

In her down time she enjoys knitting, spending time with her daughter Olivia (who you will occasionally spot in the office), working with her daughter's pony Trigger, riding horses, and enjoying the beach with her daughter.

Morgan Griffith - Receptionist

Morgan Griffith, a native of Montgomery, Alabama, started riding at age 13 at Merri Mac Farm where her passion for animals started to grow.
Morgan first moved to Washington with her husband in 2011, and connected with a local barn and found a love for Eventing.
In 2014, her husband received military transfer orders to Virginia where she worked for military stables and was a barn manager and riding instructor for a private Hunter/Jumper barn.
In 2017, they moved back to Washington and decided to stay, buying their first home in 2018.
Morgan’s free time is spent with her two dogs Roxy, Miniature Schnauzer, and Espresso, Silk Hair Terrier x Maltese, riding at Black Tree Farm, enjoying local Horse shows, hiking and being outdoors.

Allyson Harris-Vet Assistant

Allyson was born and raised in Kitsap County. She has always loved animals and planned on getting into a vet assistant program after high school. While checking out schools in the area she learned about a Horse Management program through Green River Community College. She completed their program in 1986 and started working with Arabians as a show groom. During that time she met her husband Greg (a horse trainer). They married in 1990 and have four daughters and a grandson. Their work has taken them to farms in the Mid-west, the Southwest, the Rocky Mountains, and the West coast. In her free time Allyson enjoys hiking, trail riding, reading, and spending time with family.

Hilary Ambrose-Vet Assistant

Originally from Eastern North Carolina, Hilary moved to Kentucky to attend the University of Kentucky. Throughout her time there, she had amazing opportunities to work with thoroughbreds of all ages from weanlings and broodmares, to racehorses (pictured above, Always Dreaming, 2017 Kentucky Derby winner). After graduating from UK with a BS in Animal Science and an Equine Specialty, she worked at WinStar farm as an HBOT technician.

In her down time, she enjoys riding whenever she can and spending time with her boyfriend and Bichon Frise, Molly.

Though she misses the bluegrass state, she is excited about the new opportunities here at Sound Equine.

Mara Denny – Vet Assistant

I began riding at 6 and talked my parents into buying a horse at age 10.  I have shown English, Western, and Driving with everything from miniatures to 17h Thoroughbreds. A winding path has led me to a Bachelors in Ecology from The Evergreen State College, a Certification of Equine Massage and a herd of miniature horses.  Still not sure how these little horses took over my life but they are an adventure in training, breeding, and showing.
